Forgive Me, Gorgeous

February 10, 2009

Forgive Me, Gorgeous is my friend Ryan‘s one man band. And he is le awesome.

Ryan and me my senior year of high school.

Ryan’s a really cool guy and he can sing and play guitar.  He used to be in a screamo band called The Last Great Bridge Jumper. They were pretty serious about pursuing a career in music after high school but eventually disbanded and finally fell through after an attempted reunion over this past summer.  Leaving Ryan by himself once again.  As he writes in his blog: I once again began to look for something else. But this time, something new. Not an old strategy, or a revitalized idea, but something completely fresh. I started writing my own music. It fits best in the indie/folk genre, like Dashboard mixed with Jack Johnson mixed with Rocket Summer mixed with Manchester Orchestra.

Anyway, Ryan’s a great guy and really passionate about what he does. It’s been awesome watching him on his “journey” of sorts.  Please check out his stuff! “Volkswagen Commercial” is just very Ryan. And 2:56 in “One Unheard Message.” Good grief!

Check out his antics on his YouTube page as well.

Sometimes when I get bored I just go to YouTube and watch this. It’s such a simple song. Anyone who’s ever been to church knows it. I dunno what it is about this version, maybe just the fact that it’s Misty and I have a crush on her, but this makes my heart ache.

onething is coming up. I want to go.

Adele, again.

Here’s a video by Adele, whom I wrote about previously. This is a live version of “Daydreamer,” my favorite song off the album.

New Find

Why am I just finding out about British singer Adele? Okay, maybe I’m jumping the gun a bit since I’ve only heard a few tracks so far on her album “19” (she was only 19 when she debuted! geez! I’m 19!) but I’m liking it. I’m having a bit of trouble describing her style. Think Amy Winehouse not on crack and singing about happier things. Her voice reminds me a bit of Feist and Yael Naim except maybe with more…soul? Which I like, although I feel like some tracks would be more suitable to a thinner voice.

She was just in New York in September. *Sigh*  And she’ll be on SNL this week.

I don’t think I can go to any of the concerts I wanted to go to this year.

Chairlift | 10/18 | Bowery | 9 PM | $15. Opening with Holy Ghost! for The Juan Maclean.
Yael Naim | 10/27 | Webster | 7 PM | $25.
Kaki King / The Mountain Goats | 11/09 | Webster | 8 PM | $23.
Sondre Lerche | 11/20 | Bowery | $22.

I made a mental note about a month ago to write about this but forgot about it until now. Oops.

I first discovered Gregory and the Hawk on YouTube when I stumbled across her cover of Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable,” lulz. But no really, I’ve yet to hear a song by her I don’t like. Think light and airy and guitary and beautiful.  Kind of like Joanna Newsom, minus the complete suck.  Her lyrics are like poetry!!!

So I am really looking forward to Moenie and Kitchi. Hehe, how cute does that sound.

I wonder if it’s been leaked already. I mean, not that I would go looking for it or anything. ESPECIALLY SINCE COLUMBIA SUSPENDED MY NETWORK ACCESS FOR SOMETHING I DOWNLOADED A MONTH AGO, AT HOME IN GEORGIA.

In other exciting news, I will have another chance to see Yael Naim! Seeing as no one wanted to go with me to her free concert this past summer. This time I will have to pay. Monday, October 27th. 7 PM doors. Webster. $25. I will find someone to go with this time.

ANYWAY.  Here’s Gregory and the Hawk.

The guy’s laugh at the end is kind of creepy.
BUT WHY IS SHE SO CUTE. I could eat her.
